General News

With devolution has come the opportunity for the voluntary and community sector to get closer to the locally elected representatives involved in the decision-making processes that affect our day to day work. NICVA is making a big push this year to help organisations find out about and make more use of the Northern Ireland assembly.

NICVA’s Assembly Monitor website contains all the information you need to help push your issues further up the political agenda including information on ministers, departments, special advisors, committees, policy officers and spokespeople as well as contact details for all MLAs. There is also an Assembly Monitor weekly email update covering Assembly business that affects the voluntary and community sector.

Another round of these successful sessions will take place at NICVA on 11 March 2008, Community Network Craigavon on 9 April 2008 and at North Down Community Network on 7 May 2008. To book a place at one of these events or to subscribe to NICVA’s Assembly Monitor service please email: cathy.breslin@nicva.org.

The Lobbying and Advocacy Forum is another good place to get more involved with the Assembly. The next meeting takes place on 27 February 2008 at the Ulster Unionist Party Headquarters and will include a presentation by Dr Brian Crowe, UUP Head of Policy, on how voluntary and community organisations can influence party policy. Membership of the forum is open to all voluntary and community organisations. Email sean.kelly@nicva.org for details.
