Crisis Connect is an advisory service set up to support the development of deposit schemes and private rented sector solutions to homelessness.
The private rented sector has long been recognised as a good housing option for homeless and vulnerably housed people. However, people on low income and benefits face considerable obstacles to accessing and sustaining accommodation. Crisis has been at the forefront of improving access to the private rented sector since the launch of Crisis SmartMove, a best practice model deposit scheme run by local agencies under license from Crisis, which has helped over 10,000 people into accommodation since 1997.
Crisis Connect will work with front line agencies to improve the coverage and quality of deposit schemes throughout the UK, and help ensure that good quality services are available to all those in housing need. In February 2008 Crisis launched a comprehensive good practice guide for deposit schemes. This is an essential tool for voluntary and statutory agencies wishing to effectively support homeless households into sustainable tenancies in the private rented sector, and can be downloaded for free or ordered from our website (details below). In addition you can expect the following from Crisis Connect:
