General News

In May 2007 Post Office Ltd and the government agreed that nearly one in five post office branches (2,500) across the United Kingdom should close. The public consultation period will start in Northern Ireland on 1 April 2008 and only lasts for six weeks.

Help the Aged has developed a briefing pack to support older people to campaign to save their local post office.  Copies of this briefing pack are available by contacting Claire Killen on 028 9023 0666 or claire.killen@helptheaged.org.uk.   Alternatively you can download the pack from www.helptheaged.org.uk and help save your Post Office.

Rural Community Network (RCN) is also responding quickly to these developments by holding a meeting in Cookstown on 8 April 2008 at 10.30am. Both Post Office Ltd and Post Watch will attend to brief participants on the announcements and answer questions.

Please contact Karin or Mark at RCN for more information or to register to attend on 028 8676 6670 info@ruralcommunitynetwork.org.
