This year refugee week is the 18th-24th June and many groups are taking part in a National Sleepout to highlight the issue of destitution of asylum seekers in the UK. This is part of the Still Human Still Here campaign (click here).
Take action - organise a Sleepout or Join Amnesty International in theirs:
As part of Refugee Week 2007, supporters around the UK are being encouraged to organise a Sleepout to highlight the scandal of destitution of refused asylum seekers.
Amnesty International (NI) will be sleeping out on the steps of St Annes cathedral from 9.30pm on Friday 22nd June. We will be joined by members of the Refugee Action Group, staff from the Law Centre and asylum seekers living in Belfast who may be facing this fate.
Please come along and support this event, even if you have no desire to actually sleep out an hour or so would raise the spirits of those who are sleeping out and the show solidarity to the asylum seekers who will be joining us. Please also bring with you a jam jar with a tealight in it!
If you fancy coming along and sleeping please contact Paula, paulatodd@tiscali.co.uk.
Amnesty cannot accept any responsibility for anybody under the age of 18 but if a minor is accompanied by an adult they are welcome to come along as well!
