General News

The Northern Ireland Energy Agency manages the Healthy Homes Scheme which targets the problem of inadequate or unhealthy heating in vulnerable households across Northern Ireland. Through the scheme eligible households will be entitled to a free natural gas heating system and insulation upgrade. Households could qualify if they satisfy the following criteria:

  •  Owner occupier / Private tenant
  • Have no heating system / solid fuel heating / Economy 7 heating
  • Live in an area where natural gas is available (Firmus Energy or Phoenix Natural Gas must be available at their address)
  • Have long term health problems affected by the cold (eg respiratory related illnesses)

Some of the most vulnerable households are difficult to identify. As members of voluntary and community groups, you may be in contact with some of these households. You may even know a family member who would qualify.

If you know of anyone who you think would qualify for this scheme, please contact the Energy Saving Trust advice centre on Freephone 0800 512 012 quoting Healthy Homes.
