YouthAction NI's Young Men's Unit, Men's Action Network and The Men's Project, are hosting a seminar on men’s health on 10 September 2008 at the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

The seminar will be addressed by leading experts in this area and will provide an opportunity for participants to hear about:

  • the context of men's health;
  • the relationship between masculinity and health-seeking behaviour;
  • the most recent research evidence and statistics;
  • how men's health in Northern Ireland compares to other countries;
  • the rationale for, and scope of, the Men's Health Strategy in the Republic of Ireland;
  • the Vienna Declaration on Men's Health.
     

Keynote speaker will be:

  • Prof Ian Banks, President of the European Men's Health Forum, BMA(NI)
  • Dr Steve Robertson, Reader in the Centre for Men's Health at Leeds Metropolitan University and
  • Director of the European Men’s Health Development Foundation
  • Dr Ken Harland, Course Director of BSc Community Youth Work course at the University of Ulster
  • Dr Noel Richardson  -  Director of the Centre for Men's Health Research and Training at the Institute of Technology in Carlow
     

This event will be of special interest to health and social service policy-makers and service providers, men's groups, academic researchers, and persons with a remit for equality issues in any field. There will be a maximum of 60 free places available.
