CHNI is part of a steering group for an innovative social economy project soon to be launched by the organisation ‘Extern'. The ‘Extern recycle’ project will launch in the autumn. The business will offer work placements and training opportunities to people who are in temporary or supported accommodation in Belfast. The work may centre on electronics but the main thrust is to get people back to work and give them the experiences and training to build brighter futures.
- What will ‘extern recycle’ do? The business will dispose of electrical and electronic equipment in keeping with the recent WEEE legislation which recently came into effect in the UK . Equipment will be processed for re-use or dismantled for recycling.
- What do people on placement? Individuals will be trained to dismantle & refurbish materials. There will be training opportunities in other areas such as fork-lift truck driving, stock control, IT.
