General News

Local government representatives from the trade union Unison have recommended rejection of the latest employers offer on the NJC pay scales, which are widely used in the voluntary sector. This means that settlement of the pay award due from 1 April 2007 is still some way off.

but leave entitlements could be changing: The statutory holiday entitlement is changing. The Working Time (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007 will increase workers’ holiday entitlement from 4 weeks to 4.8 weeks (24 days if you work a five day week) from 1 October 2007 and to 5.6 weeks (28 days if you work a five day week) from 1 April 2009, pro-rata for those working part-time. You can find out more at www.delni.gov.uk/index/work/paidholidayentitlement.htm.

However, you may find that this has no impact on your organisation as you may already provide paid annual leave over and above this new requirement, as the 24 days are inclusive of public and bank holidays.
