Rural Community Network, COSTA and the Human Rights Consortium invite you to a half day workshop on:
Friday 10th October at 10.30 – 12.30 [Lunch provided] in
Rural Community Network, 38a Oldtown Street, Cookstown
The purpose of the workshop will be to:
- Provide an update on the Bill of Rights development;
- Share information and any work within rural communities with regards progressing a Bill of Rights;
- Identify how rural groups might lobby at this critical time elected representatives and other key stakeholders with regards the importance of a Bill of Rights.
On the 10 December 2008, the Commission will submit its advice to the Secretary of State on the possible content of a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. It is critical that we keep the pressure on elected representatives and other key stakeholders with regards the importance of a Bill of Rights to Northern Ireland and in this instance, to rural communities.
Rural communities are facing many challenges around housing, fuel poverty, access to services, and transport. Community groups are continuing to tackle these issues in an increasingly difficult environment. A Bill of Rights provides an important framework to highlight and tackle these key issues as well as underpinning the development of the forthcoming Rural White Paper.
