Northern Ireland's third Age Awareness Week, a Changing Ageing Partnership (CAP) initiative, has been launched today in the Long Gallery, Stormont, supported by the two Junior Ministers. The week will highlight the issue of discrimination against older people specifically in relation to the provision of goods, facilities and services. In addition, the stereotypical view of older people as a homogenous group will be challenged and their diversity celebrated.
Research funded by the Changing Ageing Partnership proposes the introduction of a law to make it illegal to discriminate on the grounds of age in relation to the provision of goods, facilities and services. Should it be lawful to withhold medical treatment on the grounds of age? Should holiday tour operators be allowed to place age restrictions on package deals?
