  • The Council for the Homeless Northern Ireland (CHNI) was founded in 1983 to represent organisations working with homeless people throughout Northern Ireland. We achieve this through providing training, information, research and collective representation.

  • Currently, CHNI membership comprises over 100 organisations from the Community / Voluntary, Statutory and private sectors who recognise and receive the benefits of membership. Our membership draws from not only in Northern Ireland, but in the Republic of Ireland and UK.  Click here to view a full list of CHNI’s Members.

  • Our members between them offer some 2000 accommodation places to homeless people throughout Northern Ireland and organise a wide range of support, outreach and accommodation services. Those services that can be accessed directly are listed in a poster published by CHNI.

Mission Statement. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of homeless people throughout Northern Ireland by:

  • Providing information, training, support, technical support, and networking opportunities to homelessness and related organisations
  • Representing our membership to decision makers
  • Researching aspects of homelessness
  • Lobbying for positive legislative change on homelessness issues

Vision Statement. Our vision is to see an end to homelessness in Northern Ireland. We believe that this can be achieved through ensuring that

  • all homeless people have ready access to appropriate, affordable, good quality, and permanent accommodation,
  • with adequately resourced support as required.
